Over the past few weeks, my school’s website has been shut down due to hacker attacks.
修復の見込みはゼロに近いと言われていました。
They said that chances of recovery were slim to none.
たとえ修復可能でも、正常に戻すまではかなりの時間を要するだろうともいわれました。
Even if it’s possible to rebuild, it would take a long time till everything is back in normal state.
ところがこの10年私を支えてくださった宮口栄治さんのご協力で、8割がた回復！
The reconstruction work is about 80% done thanks to Mr.Eiji Miyaguchi who has been supporting me with my school for the last 10 years.
以前のようにサクサクいかないところもあるけれど、でも深く感謝したいです、宮口さん。
There are several instances where the restored website fail to perform in the same manner as before. But I apprecoate it, Eiji-san.
A car hit the sidewalk on route 208 in Tamana city, Kumamoto pref. and turned upside down, trapping two people inside. Several passers-by came and rescued them out free from injury. Two minutes later, the car caught fire and was burnt down to ashes.
When the police arrived there, all the rescuers had left.
Many of us struggle for a weight on the daily basis.
But for Ed Ugel, this battle of the bulge was so tough he decided to get serious about it.
He set off on a year-long quest to lose fifty pounds and regain his health, which he documented in his new book “I’m with fatty”.
And Ed Ugel is here to tell us more about it. Welcome Ed. Good to see you.
Thanks for having me.
What motivated you to start on this difficult journey in the first place?
That was born out of a health issue.
I thought that I was getting chubby around the middle and chin. but it turns out that my wife taped me sleeping and my snoring was so bad that it turned out it was sleep apnea.
Sleep apnea of course is when you stop breathing in your sleep, which is not a good thing.
And that’s related to weight.
That’s related to weight.
There’s not an absolute cause or effect. My doctor would put it that way. But once I put the weight on, the apnea showed up and when I lost the weight the apnea disappeared.
So at least for me, that was the motivating factor.
Now in this book you are very honest about the difficulties you went through in losing weight and coming to terms with the fact that you were a food addict.
Could you tell us about that?
You know I’m a lover of food like many people are. But I think when you wake up in the middle of the night and find yourself with a piece of steak in one hand and pint of Ben and Jerry’s in the other, you realize maybe youhave gone past the point of no return. So for me it was really trying to find a way to isolate what was passion versus what was really an addiction. And that was something that I needed to change through the rest of my life.
So how hard is it to find a healthy relationship to food for someone who obviously loves food so much.
Well I don’t think it’s as hard as it sounds. For me it’s about moderation and will. What I try to do is cook my way out of this problem.
When I’m in the kitchenand I’m cooking as much as I love to cook. And my food I think is delicious. It’s not really that unhealthy.
Just naturally I cook a relatively healthy meal
It’s when you are eating out of styrofoam boxes at a Chinese takeout that I really get myself in trouble, I’d like to think that’s really par for the course for a lot of the country .
Yeah, I think that’s a bit taken away from your book that if you learn to cook for yourself, you’ll ultimately eat a lot more healthy. Going out to eat is often the worst way we can eat.
Well I think it’s almost impossible to cook as badly and poorly as for yourself.
It sounds like a joke, but it’s not. （冗談のように聞こえますがそうではありません）
How do you get a two hundred pound bear out of a tree?（体重２００ポンド（約１００キロ）のクマを木からどうやって下ろすでしょう？）
The answer, very carefully. （答えは、注意深くです）That’s right.
It took firefighters hours to lower the bear with tranquilizer darts, harness and a ladder truck （催眠剤入りの矢、固定具、はしご車をつかい、消防隊員がこのクマを下ろすのに数時間もかかりました） **** and has more of this video. Adrian.

We’ve all heard of cats getting stuck in trees, but a bear? （木の上で立ち往生するネコ、なら聞いたことはありますがクマとは・・・）
That’s exactly what happened in Oxnard today, as you are about to see the video.（これが本日オクスナードで起こった事件です。早速ビデオをみてみましょう） It’s pretty wild. （大変に野性的です）

You could call it an unbearable position. （（寝るには）耐えられない場所、といえます。⇒注 ここでunbearableという語を用いているのは真ん中にbearという言葉がふくまれているのでダジャレをねらっているため、とおもわれる）
But this two hundred pound black bear looked right at home as he slept wedged in a tree in this Oxnard Cemetery. （ですが、ここオクスナード共同墓地の木の上で、Ｖ字型になって寝ているクマはくつろいで見えます）
The Fish and Game officials peppered the bear with tranquilizers after it climbed up this tree to take a nap. （クマが上に登って昼寝を始めたのち、Fish and Game （野生動物などを保護する官庁組織）の職員らが催眠剤入りの矢をクマに向かって捲きました）。
The darts were supposed to make him fall to the ground. （矢を使えばクマは下に落ちるはずだったのですが）
But he got tangled in the branches instead. （そのかわり、枝々の中にからまってしまいました）
Police say he was initially spotted near fire station, then up a tree in the condo complex, and then started prowling the neighborhood near the cemetery around 2 a.m. （警察の話によると、このクマはまず消防署近くで発見され、続いてマンション敷地内の木の上に登っているところを目撃されました。そして午前２時ごろ共同墓地付近をうろつき出したのです）
The big guy eventually went over the cemetery wall and at dawn he could see three tranquilizer darts poking from his fur.（それからとうとう墓地の壁を超え、中へ侵入、明け方に３発の睡眠剤入りダート（矢）が撃ち込まれました。）
After several hours, fire fighters brought in a massive harness and a ladder truck and crews carefully lifted the sleepy sluggish bear from the branches with his head hanging and arms and legs dangling. （それから数時間後、消防隊員が大型のハーネス（固定具）とはしご車を手配、そして慎重にクマを持ちあげました。頭や手足をだらりとさせて。
All before being safely loaded into the back of a truck. まもなくトラックの後ろへ積み込まれました。
And officials have taken the bear to a nearby facility to look **** before releasing him back to the wild. （その後クマは、官庁職員によって近くの施設へ移動、もとの野生の場所へ戻す前に＊＊＊をします。 ⇒注 この部分聴き取れなかったなあ、おそらく「検査」に類する単語だとはおもうのですが）
And I guess that is supposed to show you that when you’ve got to take a nap when you are tired, tree works. （この事件でひとつわかったわね。疲れて昼寝をしたいときは木の上がいいってこと。）
Why not. Regardless of where it is. （そのとおりね、どこにあろうと寝られるものね）
But I would imagine that is a costly operation to get this guy down. （だけれどこのクマを下ろす作業にどれだけかかったのかしら）
First of all, looking at the video・・・ how large he is, but really tied up a lot of resources as well. （うーん、意味わからんなあ。このresourcesには国の資源という意味があるそうなので、警察や消防など多くの国家機関を拘束させた、という意味ではないかと思います）
Absolutely Fish and Game officials down there as well as fire fighters took more than two hours just to figure out how to get the bear out of there safely. （クマをどうやって安全に運び出すかを考えるだけで２時間以上もかかったのですから。）
But yes we certainly tied up a lot of resources and we have no idea exactly how much it cost, but certainly time consuming. （確かに多くの機関を巻き添えにしました。金銭的にどれだけ費用がかさんだのか見当付きません。時間が多くかかったことは確かですが）
You’ve got to take a nap at grandmother’s house and get on the bed, not on a tree like that.（まあ、寝るんだったらおばあちゃんの家にでも行ってベッドで寝るのがいいですよ、あんなふうに木の上で寝ちゃあダメ。
It’s a rule we’ve all come to know. What’s beyond this?
これは我々皆すでに知っている規則だが、その先には何が待っているのでしょうか？

Only one carry-on and one personal item allowed. 現行では手荷物一個と物品一個の持ち込みが許されている。For most travelers, that doesn’t even include jacket, food, magazine, you know.だがほとんどの場合、上着、食料、雑誌はその物品に数えないとしている。
But for one airline, that rule will now cost you. And these days, the cabins crowded with carry-ons one airline is fighting back. だがこの制度に課金しようとする会社が１社ある。 キャビンが手荷物でいっぱいになるのを食いとめようとしている会社が１社ある。
Spirit airlines announce that beginning in August, they will not only charge you for checked bags, but the carry ons too.スピリット航空社は、この８月より、預け荷物だけでなく持ち込み荷物にも料金を課すと発表。

They claim that they are lowering checked bag fees and ticket fares.同社では、預け荷物と航空運賃を下げると主張。
But prepare to pay 20 to 30 dollars for your carry-on at the ticket counter, 45 dollars at the boarding gate. ただし持ち込み荷物には料金支払いを覚悟してください。 チケットカウンターでなら２０－３０ドル。 搭乗ゲートなら４５ドル。 → なぜこんな差をつけるのかな？
Our sales, since we made this announcement, have been up over 50% versus the same time last week. （同社社長のコメント）この発表後でも、売上高は先週に比べ５割アップした。
Part of Spirit’s popularity lies in the fact that it builds itself as the leading ultralow cost carrier in the United States. スピリット航空の人気は、超格安運賃の先端をゆくキャリアとしてのし上がってきた事実に一部あります。

The price of a one-way flight on Spirit from Atlanta to Myrtle beach can run as low as 31 dollars a ticket. アトランタからマートルビーチまでの片道運賃を例にとると、ひとりあたり３１ドル下がる計算になりますが、
But adding all the additional charges and all of cart fees, the total can quickly add up to 165 bucks. すべての付加チャージを加算すると現行より１６５ドル高くつくことになります。
That’s about the same price as the ticket on a premium airline but almost twice the super saver fare we found on Delta. これなら主要航空会社と変わらなくなり、デルタ航空で見つけたスーパーセーバー料金の２倍となります。
But Spirit CEO Ben Baldanza stands by his decision. “It will make fares generally cheaper for consumers And we’ll make the boarding process smoother and easier for everyone.
So the question remains. Will paying for carry-ons become the norm for all the airlines?疑問が一点。 この動き、他社もあたりまえに追随するのでは？
Quite certain. Other airlines are watching us very very closely to see it’s success or it’s failure. （同社広報のコメント： ありえますね。うまくいくか、失敗するか他社はじっくりと模様を眺めています。）
Now the fees are going to affect for flights booked after August 1st. ８月１日以降に予約するものすべてにこの料金が適用されます。
