12月の某日、酒好き生徒さん２０名とサンロクの居酒屋で忘年会を開きました。

みんな他の教室のメンバーとは面識がないので、この日が初対面。そのせいか乾杯直後はシーンとして盛り上がりに欠けました。でもやがてアルコールがまわりだすと、いつもの授業のような騒がしさが戻ってきました。

食べ飲み放題形式だったので制限時間は９０分。それだけ時間があれば充分だと思って歓談していたら、店員がきて、「あと１５分ですが、ラストオーダーどうなさいます？」

えー、もうそんなに時間がたったのお？

幹事があわてて２次会の場所を探し出し、着いたところは「紅ばら」というスナックでした。

私はもうしこたま酔っていたので覚えていませんが、だれかが中森明菜のDESIREを熱唱してました。ゲラッゲラッゲラッゲラッ　バーニラー・・・なつかしい、こんな歌もあったなあと思っていたら、「はい次先生の番だよ」と言われ、選んだのは甲斐バンドの「安奈」。（これしか知らない）

あんなー、クリスマスキャンドルの灯はゆれているかい、あんなあーお前の愛の灯はまだ、もえてーいるーかいー。

いつもこの時期になると口ずさむ曲です。

そんなこんなであっという間に終わった忘年会、楽しかったです。元気でいる限り、やり続けたいと思いました。

大物歌手がまたひとり去りました。アンディウィリアムズさん、とても素敵な声の持ち主でした。

このレコードジャケット、見覚えがあります。近所のレコード屋で何週間も第一位に居座っていましたから・・・

味の素のCMに出ていました、それから紅白歌合戦にも出場。きっと日本びいきだったのですね。

晩年は膀胱がんに見舞われ闘病生活の日々。つらかったでしょうね。

アンディさんお疲れ様でした。あなたの歌声は永遠に人々の心に残ります。

状況が変化すると、いままで見えなかったものが見えてくることがある。

There are times when , with situations changing, we can see things better than before.

それは我が国のエネルギー政策にもあてはまる。

And it applies to Japan’s energy policy.

東日本大震災と福島原発事故は我が国を苦境においこんだ。

The great east Japan earthquake and tsunami and the subsequent meltdown at the Fukushima nuclear plant put Japan into crisis.

ところがこうした苦境を”転機”ととらえる専門家がいる。

But there are some experts who see this crisis as a chance for a new beginning.

ノンフィクション作家山根一眞氏はその一人だ。

One of them is a non-fiction writer KAZUMA YAMANE.

彼は震災で今までの２０世紀型の文明はNOを突き付けられ、リセットされた。そして新しい技術やシステムが世の中に出るものすごくいいチャンスになっている、と語る。

He says “The twentieth-century type of civilization is now denied and reset owing to those disasters, creating a good chance for new technologies and systems to be put in the world.

原発などの発電設備があるから、新しい発電技術はコストや将来性の見地から実用性に薄く、開発するだけの価値がないとみなされてきた。 New power generation technologies were considered too short in practical use to be developed because sufficient energy supply was guaranteed by exhisting nuclear plants.

いまそういう技術が動き出した。これは素晴らしいことだ。

Now those technologies have made their way. It is wonderful.

レンズ風車、大気中の電波を集めて発電する技術、潮流発電。実用化への道のりは長いが、子、孫、次の世代の時代のことを考えるといまからじっくり取り組んでおく必要がある。

Lens windmill, power generation by collecting microwaves in the air, and ocean current power generation.　Although　there is a long way to go, but we need to take each step along the way for our kids, grandkids, and great grandkids.

映画でも知られる児童文学「オズの魔法使い」はデフレをめぐる論争をもとにした寓話との説がある。舞台となった１９世紀後半の米国は物価下落が続き、農民は借金返済に苦しんでいた。There is a theory that “Wonderful Wizard of OZ”, a children’s novel which is also known for its film, is an allegory based on the disputes over deflationary trends in the late nineteenth century, when, in the United States,  commodity prices   were continuously dropping and farmers were at a loss how to pay back their debts.

金本位制を維持すべきか、金と銀との両方を硬貨に用いる金銀複本位制にし通貨の量を増やしてインフレを起こすべきか、これが大統領選の争点にもなった。The dispute was whether the gold standard system should be maintained or to increase currency volume and stimulate  inflation by adopting the gold – silver standard . It also became one of the main issues in the presidential election.

物語は 故郷から遠く離れた不思議な土地に迷い込んだ少女ドロシーが主人公だ。The main character of the story is Dorothy, who finds herself lost in the wonderland far away from home.

ドロシーは家に帰れるようにしてくれる魔法使いを探し、危険な黄色いレンガの道を銀色の靴（映画ではルビー）を履いて進む。　She makes her way through following the dangerous yellow brick road with silver shoes on (ruby in the movie).

黄色は金本位、銀色は銀本位を表している。　Yellow brick road stands for the gold standard, whereas her shoes silver standard.

オーストリアンタイムズがつい先ほど報じた話です。

１．ポーランドの女性歯科医がもと付き合っていた男性の歯を全部抜いたことで懲役３年の刑を受ける予定。

２．二人は数日前に別れた。原因は男に新しい彼女が出来たことだった。

３．なのにその男性が歯の痛みを訴え、彼女のいる歯科医院にやってきた。

４．診察台にすわる彼を見て、最初はプロ医師として接するつもりだった。だが、彼の顔を見ているうちにだんだん憎しみがわいてくる。

５．とうとう感情を抑えきれなくなり、復讐を決意。

６．たっぷりと麻酔をかけて全ての歯を抜く。

７．男、麻酔から目覚め、異常に気づく。時すでに遅し。

８．歯のない顔に幻滅して新しい彼女も去る。

９．新しい歯を入れるのに金かかるなあ、とぼやいている。

私はこの男性にあって、一言いいたい。

「なんでほかの歯医者に行かなかったんだ」と。

A Polish woman is facing three years in prison after she removed all of her ex-boyfriend’s teeth during dental surgery just days after their breakup.

“I tried to be professional and detach myself from my emotions,” Anna Mackowiak, 34, told the Austrian Times. “But when I saw him lying there I just thought, ‘What a bastard’ and decided to take all his teeth out.”

Marek Olszewski, 45, reportedly showed up at Mackowiak’s dental office complaining of toothache just days after he broke up with her. She then allegedly gave him a “heavy dose” of anesthetic, locked the door and began removing all of his teeth one at a time.

“I knew something was wrong because when I woke up I couldn’t feel any teeth and my jaw was strapped up with bandages,” Olszewski said.

“She told me my mouth was numb and I wouldn’t be able to feel anything for a while and that the bandage was there to protect the gums, but that I would need to see a specialist,” he said.

“I didn’t have any reason to doubt her, I mean I thought she was a professional.”

Adding to his trauma, Olszewski said his new girlfriend has already left him over his now toothless appearance.

“And I’m going to have to pay a fortune on getting indents or something,” he said.

Mackowiak is currently being investigated for medical malpractice.

釣りが趣味の生徒Sさんに最近感じていることを語ってもらいました。

私の趣味は釣りです。 毎週日曜日、朝早く家を出て海へ向かいます。釣りは楽しいですが、地球温暖化の兆しが気になります。ここ数年、取れる魚の種類に変化が出ているのです。以前なら南方にいたような魚が針に掛かり、驚かされます。海水温度が高まり、潮の流れが急に変わっているのでしょう。

My hobby is fishing. I drive down to the sea early in the morning every Sunday.

Although I enjoy fishing a lot, the thing that does weigh on my mind is the increasing signs of global warming.

Surprisingly enough, the type of fish that I catch these days are not what they used to be a few years ago.

The majority of them are supposed to be found in the southern parts of Japan.

This is a clear indication that sea temperatures are rising and that ocean currents are rapidly changing.
