リスニングの苦手な私ですが、それでもスンナリと入ってくる話し方・・・きっと彼の実業家としての経験が作り上げたのでしょう。

 

就任演説の冒頭の部分だけ訳してみました。リスニングの勉強にお役立てください。

 

 

We, the citizens of America, are now joined in a great national effort to rebuild our country and to restore its promise for all of our people.

われわれは、アメリカの市民として、国家を再建し、すべての国民の約束を取り戻すために、大きな国家的努力に加わりました。

 

Together, we will determine the course of America and the world for years to come.

我々は、今後数年間、一緒にアメリカと世界の歩む道を決定してゆくのです。

 

We will face challenges. We will confront hardships. But we will get the job done.

Every four years, we gather on these steps to carry out the orderly and peaceful transfer of power, and we are grateful to President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama for their gracious aid throughout this transition. They have been magnificent.

Today’s ceremony, however, has very special meaning. Because today we are not merely transferring power from one administration to another, or from one party to another — but we are transferring power from Washington, D.C. and giving it back to you, the American People. 今日の儀式は、しかし、非常に特別な意味を持っています。今日、私たちはある政権から別の政権へ、あるいはある政党から別の政党へ権力を移すだけではないのです。権力をワシントンD.C.から国民の手に取り戻しているのです。
