アルキメデスの大戦という映画を見てきました。I went to see a movie titled “The Great War of Archimedes”.

巨大な戦艦「大和」の建造計画をやめさせるために雇われた天才数学者、櫂直（かいただし）のフィクションストーリーです。It is a fiction story about a math genius (Tadashi Kai)  who was hired to discourage a plan to build the gigantic battleship “YAMATO”.

1930年代、海軍の中には二つの派閥がありました。大和の建造を推進するグループとそうでないグループです。In 1930s,　there were two opposing factions in the Navy – those who promoted the construction of Yamato and those who didn’t.

作るか否か、最終決定を下す会議が数週間後に迫っていました。It was only a few weeks before the final conference where they discussed which way to go – building Yamato or not.

直（ただし）の使命はそのたぐいまれなる数学知識を使って大和建造計画に失点がないかどうか突き止めることでした。たとえば建造費見積もりに誤りがないか、台風の際に構造上の欠陥がないか。Tadashi’s mission was to use his mathematical talent in detecting any failure in the Yamato project such as an error in the cost estimate or structural defects in case of a strong typhoon.

とっても面白く、2時間という時間が数分に感じられました。The story was so exciting that the  two hours passed as if it were a few minutes.

主人公を演じたのは菅田将暉、かっこいいです。The actor who played the main character is Masaki Suda. He is cool.

映画を見たその夜、鈴木君(仮名）という高校生に受験英語を教えるレッスンがありました。That night, I had a class to teach a high school boy, Suzuki.

彼のカバンの中に本が・・・  I found this book in his bag.

ちょっと見ていいかい、彼に頼み込んでページをめくる。”Can I see it?” I asked him, picked it up and thumbed through pages.

急に映画のシーンのように解いてみたくなり、1問に挑戦。I suddenly felt like Tadashi Kai and tried to solve one of the math problems there.

解き終えて鈴木君に採点してもらったところWhen I finished it, I asked Suzuki if my answer was correct.
「野村先生、だめです。サインとコサインを取り違えています」But he said “I’m afraid Nomura Sensei. It’s wrong. You mistook sine for cosine.
げげっ、そんなミスをしてしまったのか・・・Oh No. How come I made such a big mistake.

でもいいや、ちょっとだけ映画の主人公になった気がした。鈴木君、手伝ってくれてありがとう。Anyway, thank you Suzuki for helping me feel like Tadashi Kai.

友人が新しい通信アプリを勧めてくれました。遠くに住んでいる生徒に英語レッスンするのにより役立つような。A friend of mine recommended me a new communication app that would better help me conduct my online English lessons with students who live far away from where I live.

その名前を言うのは勘弁してください。Please allow me not to tell you its name.

でもググればすぐわかるでしょうが。（笑）But I’m sure you will find that out easily if you google it.(lol)

これはただのスクショではありません。ホワイトボードなのです、それも遠くに住む２人以上の人間が絵を描いたり、文字を描いたり消したりできます。 This is not just a screenshot but a whiteboard where more than two persons can draw, text and erase remotely.

青いのが私、赤いのは生徒です。九州に住んでいます。Actually the blue letters and lines are mine and the red ones are hers.　She lives in Kyushu.

何百マイルも離れているのに、まるで同じ部屋で作業しているかのよう。Though we are hundreds of miles away from each other, we can work together as if we are  virtually in the same room .

こういうものが欲しかった！This is what I’ve been looking for.

遠距離のハンデを克服してくれること、間違いないでしょう。I’m sure it will help overcome the handicap of distance. 

グーグルアナリティクスというものを利用しています。　私のホームページをどこの誰が見ているか、詳しく教えてくれる優れもの。

これを見ると、親戚も知り合いもいない府県の人が毎日のようにサイトを覗きに来ているのがわかっています。いったい何の目的で？

関心を持たれるのは悪い気がしませんが、ちょっと怖い気もします。

まあいい、こんなおいぼれおやじのサイトが見たいのなら、いくらでもどんぞ！
