生徒のMさんは大の海外旅行好き。年に６，７回は旅に出ます。M is one of my students. She loves travelling abroad. She does six to seven times a year.
今週月曜、数週間ぶりに授業に顔を出した彼女。On this Monday she showed up in my class after a few weeks’ absence.
「今度はどこへ行って来たの？」と皆がたずねると、答えは「オーストリアのウイーン」 We all asked her “Where have yuo been to this time?” She answered “Vienna, Austria”.
そしてお土産品を手渡してくれました。
Then she handed me the souvenir.
It was a piece of olive oil soap packed in a paper box attached with a woman’s figure.箱に入ったオリーブオイルの石鹸で、表には女性の人形がついている。
Apparently, the figure is the Greek Goddess Athena who is said to have created the first olive tree.みたところ、その人形はギリシャ女神のアテナ。この世に初めてオリーブの樹を作ったといわれているのだそうで。
I did some checking online and learned that olive oil soap helps to add moisture to your skin. ネット検索したところ、オリーブオイル石鹸は、肌に潤いを与えるのだとか。
これで今年は10年若く見えるかも・・・ I hope I’ll look ten years younger by using this.
