この思い、璃花子さんに届け!

現役医師のDさんとフィリピン人のAnさんをまじえ、フリートークしました。話題は水泳選手の池江璃花子さん。

私) I was very shocked by the news of the swim star Rikako Ikee diagnosed with leukemia.
Dさん) So was I.
An) Have you ever been involved in a treatment of  patients with leukemia?
Dさん) Yes, I have.  I mean as an anesthesiologist for a donor who donated his bone marrow.
私) How long does a bone marrow donor have to be under anesthesia?
Dさん) Nornally a few hours. It depends on each individual case, though.
An)  I had thought that the operation of transplanting bone marrow would take much longer time.
Dさん) The transplanting operation itself takes about an hour only. But the donor has to stay hospitalized for a few days.
私) What do you think is the most important for Rikako Ikee aside from finding a matching donor?
Dさん) As a doctor, I can say she needs a strong mind.
An)  Strong mind?
Dさん) Yes,  the treatment of leukemia is long and painful. So patients are sometimes losing patience. Some refuse further treatment in the worst case.
私)So Rikako-san has to have a vigorous mentality to conquer her suffering.
An)  Let’s keep our fingers crossed that God will grant her another chance to rise to the top.
